Theme:  "Take Flight and Soar with WGCF"

Spending my summers in northern Wisconsin picking blueberries in the forests, running through prairies abounding with wildflowers, and fishing in the crystal clear lakes, introduced me to nature and led me to a lifetime of appreciating the outdoors.

I was in awe of the black bears and bald eagles that I often encountered. Conservation became important to me and working to protect our environment and wildlife became a way of life.

Fast forward to my membership in a garden club that was part of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and learning I could become an Environmental Consultant. The next steps were attending courses for Gardening and Landscape Design schools. WOW…the educational opportunities available to me were incredible.

Now as the president of Wisconsin Garden Club Federation (WGCF), my theme invites our members to ascend to new heights and take advantage of all our organization offers. Whether joining a Zoom class or attending conventions where they may visit another part of their state, region, and nation, and share knowledge of gardening & floral design, it’s time to soar!

My President’s Project supports prairie restoration at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, WI that is the world center for the study and preservation of the endangered family of cranes. As the only place in the world where you can see all 15 species, WGCF has a history that includes a donation of 10 acres in the 1970’s and “seed” money for what is known as Federation Fields. With over 200 acres now and a breeding center, the Crane Foundation has a habitat of wetlands, prairie, oak savanna, and forests. The new and continuing restoration of Federation Fields will be a tribute to Wisconsin Garden Club Federation’s commitment to the International Crane Foundation.
